Love & Lust • Heartbreak Is An Encore

Print

“Heartbreak is the chilling feeling that you’re doing everything wrong. That this isn’t the way it’s supposed to be.”

Heartbreak is a powerful diagnosis.

It’s the sorrow of a lonely bird. The crumbling of an expired cake. The nostalgia of a Top 40 song, overplaying itself on the radio. Heartbreak is the chilling feeling that you’re doing everything wrong. That this isn’t the way it’s supposed to be.

It’s the disbelief, the regret, the wish for one more chance.

Heartbreak is an encore. It’s a broken record, refusing to let the song end. It’s the honesty of a photograph, unable to change with the people in it.

But, how many times can you let the same person defeat you? You sacrifice our self-worth for the familiar because you settle – and you accept.

Sometimes they’ll look your way, smirking as if deprived of your body. They’ll send you a text every few months, slipping in a childish emoticon. They’ll press their shoulder against yours at the bar, reminding you of their mere existence. And not sometimes, but always, do you read too much into these things.

And so, you continue to look their way.

You hope to connect one last time. You rehearse your response to their texts – whipping your phone in critique when your words simply won’t flow.

You disregard the eyes of affection,

the real love that comes up,

the ones who can rewrite your pain.

They’re begging for your time and attention like you’re begging for someone else’s’.

Love & Lust • Just Another Guy

Print

“They’ll never know the places we’ve travelled or the stories we’ve told – all while never letting go.”

Girls will meet you.

They’ll shake your hand, learn your name, and catch a glimpse of your mischievous smile.

But, they’ll never know the comfort I get when my hand is interlocked in yours. They’ll never know the places we’ve traveled or the stories we’ve told – all while never letting go.

They’ll never know the times I called your name. Laughing and kicking as I surrendered to your tickle match. They’ll never know the pain behind those late-night-calls, the times I was drunk and vulnerable at 2 a.m.

They’ll never love your smile like I do. Embracing every chance to see it shine. They’ll never know the way your voice cracks mid-laugh, nor will they understand the jokes you mutter from your half amused smirk.

To her, you are jut another handshake.

Another name. Another mischievous smile.

To her, you are just another guy.

Love & Lust • Fate Has No Patience

Print

“I continue to lose you as I fight an impossible battle, but as fate has promised – this will one day make sense.”

I wasn’t ready to love you when I met you.

There wasn’t anything you couldn’t said – or anything you could’ve done. You gave me the chance to have you. You gave me the opportunity to miss you. You gave me nights alone, looking at my bed, without you there.

You gave me time to decide.

Time to open my arms – but I didn’t.

I couldn’t.

We were lost. Our chance was missed. Our hands untied.

Timing is everything, and time worked against us.

I left us to fate, and fate has no patience. No hesitance. No “we’ll see how it goes.” No mercy on the love letters or the people who sign them. Fate gives you a box of tools and the hands to use them. Gives you people to love and the hands to hold them.

I continue to lose you as I fight an impossible battle, but as fate has promised – this will one day make sense. And so, I continue to look at the door and hope you’ll walk in – so we can meet, again.

Love & Lust • Bonded By Time

Print

“You can convince yourself you can love a person again and again, but one day you’ll learn that love is never the same love the second time around.”

Rekindled love will start off as amazing. You’ll talk about the past.

The love you lost and the love you found.

You’ll laugh about the times you stayed out past curfew, and the times you outran the cops. The times you were apart for days, weeks, or months, and the reasons you always came back. You’ll hear the words that make you weak the smile that brings you comfort.

You’ll remember the first date. The first kiss. The first fight.

But eventually, you’ll remember the last date. The last kiss. The last fight.

The fight you couldn’t overcome.

The words you couldn’t forgive. The happily-ever-after you couldn’t wait to escape. It’s nice when our past comes back, and we once again feel at home; but often, you’ll quickly remember why it didn’t work out and with that, you’ll understand why it never will. You can convince yourself you can love a person again and again, but one day you’ll learn that love is never the same love the second time around.

Sometime’s we’re simply bonded by time.

By the yo-yo of memories we share with a person. We’re left with emotions we can’t run from and feelings we can’t forget and so, we stay long after love’s left because the past is comfortable and the past once made sense.

Love & Lust • Dating’s A Numbers Game

Print

“Keep waiting for someone willing to figure out your connect-the-dots.”

They always say that dating’s a numbers game.

This leaves NO hope for the heart that can’t settle. You pass on the dates and the tempting plea’s, but once in a while,  you see someone you want. You forfeit your emotions and more-often-than-not, you get nothing in return.

No love. No attention. No ‘happily ever after’.

But,

keep holding out.
Keep waiting for someone worth loving.
Keep waiting for someone willing to figure out your connect-the-dots.
Keep waiting for someone ready to help live out your dreams.

One day (someone) WILL put an end to your doubts.

One day you will look into someone’s eyes and when you see where you stand with them – the thought of standing alone will never again make sense.
